This book brings the sermons of Rabbi Kalonymus Kalmiš Shapira, the Rebbe of Piaseczna, which were studied during the years of the Holocaust (1940-1942) in the Warsaw Ghetto, according to his manuscript preserved at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw.
The collection of sermons was given in the “Years of Rage,” as the Rebbe put it, to the underground archive of Oneg Shabbat, headed by Dr. Emanuel Ringelblum, buried in a jug of milk, and found after the Holocaust.
The manuscript has been redeciphered and is published here accurately with an introduction, source notes, many notes, and a comparison with previous editions.
The Rebbe pronounced his sermons several times, deleted and added, and attached notes in the body of the sermons and in the margins of the issue.
This edition traces these changes and presents their different layers that were written at different times during the Holocaust.
